Who Am I?
I have always loved plants and what they can do for the soul when properly placed in a landscape. You may even call me a plant geek. I started my love affair with landscapes and plants when I moved into my first home in California. I had the weird idea that all plants in my landscape had to have a purpose. They needed to provide color, texture, food for pollinators and birds, or food for me. I spent years researching plants, growing and propagating plants, talking to experts about their plants and teaching others what I learned.
I moved to Utah and then graduated from BYU in 2012 with a bachelor’s in landscape management and as a Certified Landscape Professional through NALP. After graduating from BYU, I felt I needed to know all aspects of landscaping. I worked at a nursery so I could learn more about the plants that grow well in Utah. I also volunteered at the Conservation Garden Park in Orem and so I could understand water efficient landscaping. I took the knowledge I learned there and helped Pleasant Grove City develop a water conservation plan for the residents. I also became a Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) through the State of Utah. It was at that point that I felt I could jump into the world of Landscaping with both feet. I started working with Alpine Lawn and Landscape in 2013 and bought out the company at the end of the year, spent 4.5 wonderful years managing 2 crews and taking care of high-end residential properties in Northern Utah County and then sold my company at the end of 2018.
Here we are now. I have the deep need to share the love and knowledge I have gained about plants, landscapes and water efficiency with others, so I have started my new design company, Water Wise Designs, and hope to help others learn to understand and love their landscapes as I do.
